SEMBACH, Germany -- Twenty-seven Soldiers from across Regional Health Command Europe earned their Air Assault wings on Sept. 20 at a graduation ceremony held in Grafenwoehr, Germany.
The course was hosted by the 7th Army Training Command and conducted by a mobile training team from the Army National Guard Warrior Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia.
The purpose of Air Assault course is to train Soldiers in the conduct of Air Assault operations, sling load operations, rappelling operations from an aircraft and to develop leadership, self-confidence and aggressive spirit through mental and physical training.
The U.S. Army Air Assault School is conducted over three phases. Among the many tasks, it includes a 4-mile run, 6-mile ruck march, 12-mile ruck march, obstacle course and air assault 5k.
To earn Air Assault wings, Soldiers must demonstrate tactical and technical competence in rotary wing air movement operations, integrate organic rotary wing aircraft into joint operations and demonstrate technical ability to prepare external loads for rotary wing operations. In addition, students must demonstrate technical competence in rotary wing evacuation operations, and integrate rotary wing attack aircraft into air movement operations.
