VICENZA, Italy - Family, friends and Soldiers of the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade - Theater (MIB-T), along with representatives from Italy, joined together for a change of command ceremony, at Camp Ederle, June 11.

Col. Bryan Love, who previously served as the assistant G-2, U.S. Army Africa (USARAF) assumed command of the 207th MIB-T from Col. David Conkle.

The 207th MIB-T, Lightning Brigade, supports USARAF and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) through intelligence collection, analysis and exploitation. For Love, whom reported to USARAF nearly a year ago, the opportunity to become commander is an honor, and an opportunity to support the USARAF mission from a different vantage point.

"USARAF is an incredible team with an incredible mission," said Love. "I promise that lightning soldiers, officers and civilians will continue to work hard to deliver excellence in support of the USARAF mission."

Maj. Gen. Gary W. Johnston, commander, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), served as the ceremony's reviewing officer. During his remarks, he welcomed the incoming commander and expressed he was perfect for the position.

"You are the perfect officer to lead and build a legacy of intelligence excellence within the 207th MI Brigade," said Johnston. "Your recent experience as the assistant G-2 for U.S. Army Africa, combined with your experience in the 66th and at the Combat Arms division level is a sure fit with this organization."

Johnston also reminded the audience of Conkle's impact and thanked him for his commitment.

"Your most important impact has been on the people with whom you have served," said Johnston. "You've impacted each of their lives and made them only better intelligence professionals and warriors, also better teammates, and better individuals. Thank you for your commitment and many sacrifices."

The change of command ceremony was bittersweet for Conkle, whom took command two years prior, within hours of his arrival to Italy.

"I've woken up every morning for the past two years, and thought - ' I can't believe I get to work for this incredible organization and all of these great soldiers today,' " said Conkle. "Thank you for allowing me to be your commander."

In addition to focusing on the mission, the Lightning Brigade is widely known for its focus on families. Senior spouse, Heather Conkle, made an impact throughout her tenure in the brigade, focusing on spouse resiliency, and volunteerism within the community.

"It's amazing to see what the brigade has accomplished, which is a tremendous testament to your passion for the mission, and the care of 207th soldiers and family members," said Love about the Conkles' focus on the total army family.

The 207th MIB-T is the newest brigade in INSCOM, activating on March 16, 2016 to counter security threats focused in the continent of Africa. The brigade includes the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, and the 307th MI Battalion, both in Vicenza, Italy, the 522nd MI Battalion in Wiesbaden, Germany, and operational control of 337th MI Battalion in Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
