For anyone looking for a bargain, the Fort Riley Post Thrift Shop could have what they need. The store at 267 Stuart Ave., near the stables for the Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard, has many items to choose from.

"We have everything," said manager Melissa Townsend. "Toys, clothes, sporting goods, tools, electronics, housewares, curtains, bicycles and lawn mowers. Everything. And we are open to the public. You don't have to have an (Department of Defense) ID card to shop here."

Open Tuesdays through Thursdays and the first and third Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the thrift shop has items available from donations to the store and consignments from individuals.

"We take donations anytime we are open, and people can just bring it to the front door," she said. "Anytime that we're not open, we have a drop off shed on the side of the building. It's locked when we're open but when we're not, it's open."

There are certain days customers can get extra savings on the items available.

"On Wednesdays and Saturdays, we have our dollar bag room open," she said. "(Customers can) go in there and they can fill a bag for a dollar. The bags are provided in the room."

Townsend said some of the time there is a limit of three bags per customer but other times there is no limit.

Customers visit the store for many reasons. Kaylee O'Connor, wife of Staff Sgt. Jacob Smith, 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, says she loves to shop at the Post Thrift Shop because of the great prices.

"I just found out we're having a baby, so I like coming to this place because they have the best deals on a lot of stuff," she said. "You can get all kinds of baby stuff and clothes because this stuff is so cheap. This is a great place and they always rotate stuff out."
