PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - The Picatinny Arsenal Police Department recently received an upgrade that will improve security camera monitoring, which will enhance the safety of prisoners, officers, and members of the staff.
New, tamper-proof security cameras were installed in the department's two jail cells. These systems provide a better line-of-sight, replacing cameras that were previously mounted outside the cells, which did not provide an optimum view for officers or have audio capabilities.
"These new cameras provide us constant monitoring and surveillance of what is going on inside those cells," said Sgt. Michael Turner, lead officer with the department.
A live feed is sent to the department dispatch room just down the hall, enabling officers to respond to emergency situations within seconds.
In addition to video monitoring, with the safety of individuals in mind, a periodic physical check is also required as well as documenting the status of prisoners.
