SEMBACH, Germany-- Dr. Dell McMullen, Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Europe Director for Student Excellence, is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. David Rudy as DoDEA South District's Vicenza Community Superintendent. The selection was made through a competitive process.
Mr. David O. Rudy has more than 20 years of experience as an educator and 18 years with DoDEA. Mr. Rudy previously served as the Principal of Vicenza High School from 2015 to 2018, where he led the implementation of DoDEA's College and Career Ready Standards and instituted weekly focused collaboration time for teachers.
Mr. Rudy was the Principal of West Point Middle School from 2006 to 2015. During his tenure there, he led the teachers of WPMS through a series of focused, collaborative improvement initiatives and a successful AdvancEd Accreditation External Review during the 2012-2013 school year. The school was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the US Department of Education for the 2011-2012 school year, one of just thirty-three middle schools nationwide to be so recognized.
"David Rudy brings tremendous experience and a proven track record of success from his assignments across DoDEA," said McMullen. "His previous work in creating collaborative environments for educators and students is a perfect match to continue building upon the strong foundation established in the Vicenza community."
Rudy holds two degrees from the University of Central Florida, a Bachelor's of Science in English Education and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership.
"I am looking forward to serving military-connected students across the Europe South district in this new role," said Rudy. "Our families deserve nothing short of excellence in education for their children, and I'm excited about us achieving excellence in all of our district schools by partnering with students, parents, teachers, and community stakeholders."
DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for school-age children of Department of Defense personnel who would otherwise not have access to high-quality public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, Western Asia, the Middle East, Cuba, the United States, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Educational Agencies throughout the United States that serve children of military families.
