The Garrison Command team is offering the chance to win a new car at a golf scramble hosted by U.S. Army Garrison at Lindsey Golf Course Sept. 14.
The golf scramble allows novice and occasional golfers to pool their talents with experienced and serious golfers as a team, or sign up as individuals to be placed on teams.
In golf scrambles, all golfers tee off, then team members choose among themselves which of the four shots they will keep. From that location, all golfers then make the next shot with the best shot again becoming the next location. The goal is for each player to get an opportunity to contribute through 18 holes of accelerated golf action.
Lindsey officials encourage the Fort Knox community to participate.
"People enjoy the golf scrambles because you don't have to be a golfer or good at golf to play," said David Luttrell, marketing specialist for Lindsey Golf Course. "It's more a team sport, [and because] everyone contributes, there is less pressure [on any] one individual -- and it's more fun for everyone."
Luttrell said giveaway prizes also add a bonus to a great day on the links.
Command Sgt. Maj. Garrick Griffin, senior enlisted advisor for U.S. Army Garrison, said a golf scramble is also great for team building and hopes organizations will send teams.
"Golf scrambles are great for organizations to get together in a relaxed atmosphere," Griffin said. "We get to showcase our beautiful 18-hole golf course and build community at the same time. I'd like to see more of this here."
Included in the giveaways is a Toyota Yaris IA, provided to the winner of the hole-in-one competition.
"If you haven't been out to see us at the Lindsey Golf greens, our grounds are beautiful, the rates are very reasonable, and access from the Chaffee Gate to the course is easy," Luttrell said. "Come and compete with Soldiers. Grab three buddies and be sure to register to play."
