At 5 feet 7 inches and 35 pounds, the Stinger Missile Jump Pack (SMJP) is the largest additional item of equipment that a paratrooper can jump. The 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, has placed an increased emphasis over the last month to train our paratroopers to jump the SMJP in order to increase the short-range air defense artillery capacity within the brigade. Only the most elite paratroopers with twelve or more jumps, and who are at least 5 foot 8 inches, are chosen to jump in with this weapon system.
