The Fort Jackson Main Post Chapel opened its doors May 3 in observance of the National Day of Prayer. The annual observance hosted by the Fort Jackson Religious Support Office encourages prayer that transcends religious boundaries; everyone is invited to participate and prayers are offered for all who serve the Fort Jackson community.
"Prayer brings people together and builds bridges," said Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Rodie Lamb, Deputy Garrison Chaplain.
Prayers offered during the observance included prayers for all levels of government, the Fort Jackson leadership team, cadre, Soldiers, trainees, Family members and civilians.
Melody McCray, prayer coordinator for the Protestant Women of the Chapel said she believes the prayer day is a good time for individuals of different faiths to come together with one goal in mind.
"The National Day of Prayer event is a wonderful opportunity for all faiths to come together to lift up our nation in prayer," she said.
Lamb said that gatherings on National Prayer Day, reminds us of the source of our strength.
"Prayer reminds us that we are made in the image of God and we must depend on Him alone to sustain us," he said. "I encourage everyone to keep our nation in their prayers and ask God for his divine intervention in the affairs of mankind."
