Several construction projects continue at Fort McCoy during spring 2018.

Workers with Catamount Constructors, Inc. of Lakewood, Colo., continue construction of the Fort McCoy Access Control Point project near Gate 20.

A $9.9 million contract for the new construction was awarded in May 2017 to Catamount Constructors Inc. through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which is managing the contract.

The project description shows construction includes the building of a new identification check area with a new gatehouse; search office; inspection canopies; and development and construction of new roadways, parking, lighting, and traffic control signals.

There will be physical security items built into the project, too. This includes passive and active vehicle barriers with comprehensive control systems as well as security fencing, information systems, fire protection and alarm systems, and installation of an Intrusion Detection System.

Employees with contractor Relyant Global, which is headquartered in Maryville, Tenn., also continue work on constructing new buildings for the installation's Child and Youth Services (CYS) administration and storage.

The contract for the construction was awarded in June 2017 for $1.87 million.

Construction on the CYS project is expected to be completed by summer 2018.

At Constitution Park, Nuvo Construction continues to build the $724,000 storage facility for the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. The contract completion date is in September. The building will be brick-faced and have approximately 3,600 square feet of available storage space.

Nuvo Construction also has an $848,000 contract to build a new fitness facility for the Directorate of Emergency Services, said Directorate of Public Works Construction Inspector Adam Sands. The project had already started in 2017 but the cold winter weather has some parts of the project on hold until concrete footings can be poured for the facility.

The contract completion date for the fitness facility is in October, and most of the work to complete that facility will take place once warmer weather arrives in the spring, Sands said.

Fort McCoy has supported America's armed forces since 1909. The installation's motto is to be the "Total Force Training Center." The post's varied terrain, state-of-the-art ranges, new as well as renovated facilities, and extensive support infrastructure, combine to provide military personnel with an environment in which to develop and sustain the skills necessary for mission success.
