Assistant Secretary of the Army (Installations and Environment) Keith Eastin announced today the appointment of Jerry Hansen as the Army's Senior Energy Executive.

Hansen assumes responsibility for implementing the Army's energy security strategy. The Army is at a critical juncture in translating the vision of the Secretary of the Army Hon. Pete Geren to integrate energy security into all aspects of installation operations, military construction, and acquisition.

"We have a great deal of momentum in the energy program currently, and Jerry Hansen is the right leader to see this effort through as the Army continues to move towards true energy security," said Eastin.

Hansen assumes the responsibilities for the mission previously organized under the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Energy and Partnerships). In addition to assuming his new role as the Army's Senior Energy Executive, Hansen serves as the deputy assistant secretary of the Army (Strategic Infrastructure).

The Army has initiated the installation of a 500 MW (megawatt) solar thermal plant in Fort Irwin, California and will field 4,000 neighborhood electric vehicles across Army installations. These are two examples that Hansen will guide toward increased efficiencies for all base and structure construction.
