ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- This nation has watched with sadness and dismay as news broadcasts report on the death and destruction caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria as they swept through Florida, Texas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
In one way or another, all have been touched by the painful reality that any one of us, at any time, could find ourselves in need of kindness and support. The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM), has one of our own battling the after-effects of Maria in Puerto Rico.
With his family in Rincon, Puerto Rico, Roger G. Moore, 402nd Army Field Support Brigade, Fort Shafter, Hawaii, now faces a dire situation.
"The communications and resources in the area where my family lives are next to non-existent," said Moore. "We have a very hard time communicating with them right now. Right now, my wife and I are trying to fly my mother, sister and children out of Puerto Rico on a flight to New York City. My wife has a close friend who works for a major airline and they are working to get them on a flight sooner rather than later. We have purchased other tickets too. However, both flights depart out of San Juan, which is 82 miles away. The issue is that San Juan is far for them to travel and they currently do not have the means (or fuel) to get there and back."
CECOM, please remember all of our colleagues and friends who do great work in the CECOM universe as they navigate the heartache of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.
