RICHMOND, Ky. -- William (Bill) Huntzinger, the Program Manager for Continuous Process Improvement at Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD), received the Department of Defense (DoD) 2016 Value Engineering (VE) Award during a recent ceremony at the Pentagon.

Value Engineering is a federal law that requires each agency to establish and maintain cost-effective VE procedures and processes that help ensure effective and efficient expenditure of taxpayer monies.�

The DoD recognized Mr. Huntzinger for his exemplary efforts resulting in a total cost savings and avoidance of $6.1 million for the Richmond, KY-based installation. Through his efforts, Mr. Huntzinger provided more capability to the Warfighters through cost savings and/or avoidances, quality improvements and efficiencies to the Department of Defense.

Mr. Huntzinger, a retired Marine and Desert Storm veteran, is the first representative of the Army's Joint Munitions Command -- BGAD's higher headquarters -- to receive the DoD VE award in 13 years. He is a 4-year employee of BGAD.
