U.S. ARMY GARRISON - YONGSAN, KOREA -- The 121st Combat Support Hospital (CSH) is ready to participate in the annual Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercise. Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD) have been leading by example with their selfless service to support successful completion of the CSH mission.
UFG is a combined military exercise between the Republic of Korea and the United States and the world's largest computerized command and control implementation. It is designed to enhance alliance readiness, protect the region and maintain stability on the Korean peninsula.
The 121st CSH's HHD recently completed the task of setting up the tents that will accommodate the soldiers during the exercise. This Logistical Support Area (LSA) is vital to ensure that soldiers have a safe and clean environment where they can rest and re-boot after long hours of conducting operational support.
Capt. Andres Gil assumed command on June 8, 2017, and has been leading the team with 'Deeds not Words' motto.
"We spent several days and nights on setting up the LSA but I didn't hear a single complaint from the soldiers." said Gil, the HHD commander. "We can't be 'ready to fight tonight' if there are just people talking of getting things done but not enough people actually putting it into action and dedicating themselves to duties. Without the hard work of these soldiers, we couldn't have been able to complete this mission in such a timely manner."
Gil shared that this is his second time attending UFG and this year he has witnessed the most genuine selfless service by his soldiers. He was reminded of the Army values by seeing the soldiers every day taking the initiative on completing the tasks every single time.
"We are ready for whatever is coming and I am confident of saying that we are," Gil emphasized.
"Exercise like UFG highlights the longstanding military partnership, commitment and enduring friendship between the two nations," said Col. Erica Clarkson, 121st CSH commander. "And we will successfully complete our mission as the combat support hospital providing the best medical care for those who are making sacrifices to ensure peace and security on the peninsula, and reaffirm the U.S. commitment to the alliance."
All the companies in 121st CSH will actively participate in the CSH operational component for UFG throughout the exercise.
