VICENZA -- Anyone looking for ways keep up professional medical skills and or to give back to the Caserma Ederle community need look no further.
The U.S. Army Health Center-Vicenza has volunteer opportunities through the American Red Cross here.
Not a nurse or medical provider? It's okay, says Christie Cornell, director of the Army Wellness Center and USAHC-V American Red Cross liaison.
"The USAHC-V is looking for all skill sets. No part is too little and, even if you haven't worked in a medical clinic before, we will help you feel right at home," said Cornell. "We are happy for anyone interested to volunteer to greet patients, help answer questions, office work, or even gardening around the medical center."
The USAHC-Vicenza is looking for volunteers throughout the clinic.
"We encourage you to add to your resumè while stationed abroad, using your skills and experience serving your community. From primary care to readiness and public health, you can volunteer consistently every day or even just a few days a week. The best way to get the most out of your experience is to commit at least 8 hours a week for continuity and patient care needs," said Maj. Maria Bruton, USAHC-V deputy commander for Nursing Services.
While every season is volunteer season, the influenza season is quickly approaching, and nursing volunteers are needed to assist with immunizations for the children at the schools. All volunteer opportunities at the clinic are managed by the American Red Cross, located in Building 333 across from the Ederle fitness center.
"We encourage anyone interested in helping in the fall to act quickly to get started," said Cornell. "Those who wish to assist with immunizations in September would need to start the volunteer orientation process now because it can take time to complete the requirements."
To provide clinical care, nurses and medical care providers must have an active unencumbered license, current BLS, updated immunizations, and complete the Red Cross registration process which includes shadowing hours and a security background check.
Once registered as a Red Cross volunteer, positions assignments are selected for individuals in accordance with their skills and interests, said Michelle Pezzulo, Core Services Lead, SAF ARC Vicenza. Cornell will be the volunteer liaison while they are in the health clinic.
