FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- An upcoming interactive workshop aims to boost the employment campaigns of job seekers in the Fort Rucker Community.

Wired to be Hired, an informative and interactive Army Community Service Employment Readiness Program workshop, is scheduled for June 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to Mike Kozlowski, Fort Rucker Employment Readiness Program manager, who added that the free workshop offers a new twist to traditional workshops by featuring a line-up of guest speakers.

"I dislike lecture-style presentations," he said. "I didn't like them in college and I don't like them now. That's why I have always believed that interactivity serves to create an environment conducive to effective learning. Each workshop session speaker will afford the audience a chance to ask practical questions about their expertise areas, either during the sessions proper or during breaks between sessions.

"I chose these topics because they continue to be the most-requested ones on evaluation sheets I've received," he added. "Having them presented by experts in the field gives those topics a relevance you can't get from a textbook."

Jobseekers interested in attending the workshop need only bring their thirst for knowledge, according to Kozlowski.

"Many in the past have brought their résumés to my workshops, thinking that I'll have the opportunity to review them for effectiveness," he said. "The [workshop] is on a tight schedule and, while there will be breaks between sessions, there will not be adequate time for reviewing résumés, cover letters and the like. That's why I tell folks not to bring anything to the event except a mind open to some new ideas they'll gain from the guest speakers.

"I will furnish all workshop participants with padfolios and pens to allow everyone to take notes," he added. "It's my hope that the folks will take what they've learned home with them to review and apply to their job campaign documents. Once they have accomplished that, then their next step will be to contact me for an appointment to review these documents with them. Typically, résumé review sessions last about an hour and a half.

The workshop is offered free of charge. Childcare services for the workshop are available at that facility. Individuals requiring that service are requested to pre-register at Parent Central Services no later than one week prior to the workshop. Parent Central Services is located in Bldg. 5700, Rm. 193.
