TOBYHANNA ARMY DEPOT, Pa. -- Mike Pagnotti, a metal forming machine operator here, sets up the tools to run a job on the multi-station punch press in the depot's Fabrication and Assembly Division.
The turret on this machine holds 34 different tools, which allows the operator to setup multiple jobs. This press has the capability to run 4 x 8-foot sheets of aluminum at a high rate of speed.
Pagnotti is a subject matter expert on every machine in the sheet metal fabrication shop, according to branch chief Mike Yurkovic.
A punch press is a type of machine used to cut holes in material. It can be small and manually operated and hold one simple die set, or very large, computer numerical control operated, with a multi-station turret that holds a larger and complex die set.
Tobyhanna Army Depot is a recognized leader in providing world-class logistics support for command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems across the Department of Defense. About 3,200 personnel are employed at Tobyhanna, which is located in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania.
