III Corps deployed an Expeditionary Tactical (ETAC) Command Post on 28 and 29 March via CH-47 sling load in support of Warfighter 17-04. This rapidly deployable, mobile command post builds on efforts highlighted at the Command Post Huddle at Fort Bliss, Texas on 18 January.

"It's imperative that we increase the mobility and streamline the footprint of our command posts," said Gen. Robert "Abe" Abrams, commander of U.S. Forces Command. The III Corps ETAC will operate displaced from the Corps' Main Command Post for the entirety of the Warfighter exercise beginning 3 April.

The ever-changing nature and pace of warfare demand more agile, adaptable organizations and infrastructures that can meet changing needs across the broadest spectrum of mission sets. Large command posts that lack mobility are easily targeted and are difficult to move. III Corps, America's Armored Corps, constantly seeks to improve mobility, survivability, and effectiveness, from Soldier systems to command post structures. The ETAC concept being employed this March and April demonstrates a forward-thinking organization's use of existing resources to meet current and future needs.

Lessons learned during Warfighter 17-04 will continue to inform Army leaders' dialogue regarding the way ahead for future force development, including accompanying procurement and doctrine changes to reflect new ways of doing business in a dynamic, resource-constrained, hybrid-threat environment.

"We are testing our ability to rapidly displace the III Corps Tactical Command Post well forward of the Corps Main Command Post by using CH-47 Chinook helicopters," said Col. Stephen Ruth, III Corps chief of future operations. "This will allow the III Corps Commander to have greater situational understanding and to provide face-to-face engagements with his subordinate commanders based on critical events during the operation," said Ruth.

III Corps Expeditionary Tactical (ETAC) Command Post
