WASHINGTON -- The Army Center of Military History (CMH) officially launches their World War I Centennial website on January 17.

CMH is the Army's lead agency for all World War I Centennial Commemoration events world-wide. The site is located at www.history.army.mil.

Dr. Erik B. Villard, the digital historian who developed the website says, "CMH tells the story of the U.S. Army in World War I through its website by publishing new historical content every day, week, and month from January 2017 to May 2019."

Information on the website will cover all aspects of the Army's involvement in WWI including pre-war preparations, mobilization, battlefield campaigns and post-war duties. "It is designed to provide clarity to cause and effect" Villard said, "We will release information as close to the actual centennial anniversary as possible to demonstrate how the challenges and actions played out in real time."

Charles R. Bowery Jr., executive director of CMH, is confident the website will be a significant source of interest, "This innovative new website will have something for everyone. From the secondary school student researching a WWI topic to armchair enthusiasts to authors and historians," Bowery said.

The content includes original documents, photographs, maps, audio/video clips, and virtual 3D presentations. All of the content on the website is designed to be downloaded in easy-to-use formats (PowerPoint, pdf, jpeg, etc.) so the material can be used in the classroom, viewed offline on a full range of mobile and desktop devices, or shared via email and social media.
