Security guard Captain Jonathan Hernandez said the supplemental identifications that are accepted should be "something issued by a government agency; birth certificate or VA cards. Costco cards, credit cards do not work."

Hernandez said the common issues they expect to face are for escorted visits.

"Especially at graduations, family members come in from Missouri, or Washington state, or one of the states that are not going to be in compliance. Their Solider, since they are a student, is not here to meet them. And we have to hold fast and wait for the student to show up or else they just meet their student downtown."

Hernandez said it's important to be aware of a state issued ID being in compliance or not.

"By the end of the fiscal year, the majority of the states' IDs will not be accepted, so they will have to bring in that secondary ID (to obtain a visitors pass)."

"All of Fort Huachuca is required to have either a military ID, common access card or an access badge. The only place to get that access badge is at the Van Deman Gate Visitor Control Center," said security guard Sergeant Ricardo Cota. "Good secondary IDs are passports, [Transportation Worker Identification Credential] cards, any state or federal issued ID that has a picture and biometrics; gender, age, height, weight, etc."

The following state identifications will be accepted because they are compliant with the Real ID Act of 2005: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

The following states/territories have a limited extension through June 6, allowing federal agencies to accept driver's licenses and identification cards from: Alaska, California, Oklahoma, Oregon and Virginia.

The following states/territories have an extension through Oct. 10, allowing federal agencies to accept driver's licenses and identification cards from: American Samoa, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Northern Marianas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Texas and the Virgin Islands.
