REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Nov. 29, 2016) -- Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology recently nominated U. S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center employee Jeffery S. Wright as the Engineering and Systems Integration Professional of the Year.
As part of the Army Acquisition Executive's Excellence in Leadership Awards, this accolade recognizes an individual whose outstanding contributions and achievements merit special acknowledgement. The goal is to highlight not only the best people and their individual accomplishments but also to feature how they help their organization and the acquisition community at large.
Wright, Chief Engineer for Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command Tactical Missile Demilitarization Directorate, will be honored at the 2016 Army Acquisition Executive's Awards Ceremony in Springfield, Va. Dec. 1.
"Being nominated for this award showcases his superb professionalism which supports the Army Acquisition Workforce," said Juanita Harris, Weapons Development and Integration Directorate director.
Wright was recommended because of his role as part of the WDP-Missile Sustainment Team. This team has integrated new demil technologies in several army depots. Older methods of demil called for static fire and open burning but environmental restrictions created a need for environmentally responsible techniques such as closed disposal methods. "Our team works with the Depots, permitting agencies and safety communities to implement new technologies," said Wright. "So far we have been able to address 28 different rocket motor systems ranging from 60 to 600 pounds."
"I was very surprised to be nominated and I am very honored to be considered for this award given the breadth and scope of all that the acquisition workforce accomplishes every day," said Wright. Wright's entire career has been in the area of missile demil and he has been with AMRDEC for over 25 years. His previous position was team lead for the Obsolete Weapons and Demilitarization Team for Weapons Development and Integration Directorate.
Nominees chosen for an individual award demonstrate outstanding mission accomplishment, selfless service, extraordinary and uncompromising professionalism and a commitment to the personal and professional growth of others within the command. Nominees are evaluated in several areas, including achievements, support for ASA (ALT) priorities, demonstration of leadership and criteria specific to each award category.
"Wright is a great leader, focused toward building a cohesive team that is dedicated to the achievement of the mission," said Imtiaz Ather, Director of Missile Demilitarization, AMCOM G-3. "He provides oversight toward development of strategies and plans that ultimately will resolve strategic challenges, as he continues to implement the technologies and capabilities. Also, Wright has effectively cultivated and created an element of trust with the depots and agencies that has proven to be extremely valuable in the overall execution."
