In 2009, Sgt. 1st Class Brandon Moak started Freedom Outdoor Adventures Inc., a nonprofit organization that assists wounded Soldiers, veterans and their families with getting back into spending time outdoors and hunting.

"It's all about them and if I can help them in any way, I want to do that," said retired Master Sgt. Kelly Hitzeman, a pro-staffer for FOA. "Recently, we did an elk hunt in Idaho for a young man who suffered third-degree burns all over his body while in Iraq."

Sgt. Isaac Gallegos was overjoyed by the entire experience and humbled that FOA would do something like that for him, he added.

Hitzeman revealed that before becoming a pro-staffer, he received a veteran's hunt in Americus, Georgia, from the FOA in 2015.

"Ironically, we were hunting in my hometown. I had such a good time on the hunt. I talked with the pro-staffer who took me and I asked him how could I get more involved. I wanted to give back what I had gotten," said Hitzeman.

FOA is funded entirely by donors and sponsors. They are currently partnered with the Chick-fil-A on Bradley Park Drive in Columbus.

Individuals interested in supporting FOA can go there Oct. 7, Nov. 18 and Dec. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m., and a portion of their purchase will be donated to FOA.
