FORT BENNING, Ga., (Sept. 21, 2016) -- The Fort Benning Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation hosted a free community concert featuring Whisky Bent at Wetherby Field Sept. 17.

"We do about three concerts a year," said Amanda Reitz, special events coordinator for Benning MWR. "Our primary focus is to give a morale boost to trainees. The concert is also open to the public and the Fort Benning community. We want to offer something that will help support morale for Soldiers in basic training."

"We have great food like funnel cakes and pizza out for Soldiers, so this is just one way for us to show our appreciation," said Reitz.

Reitz stated that since Whisky Bent is a local country band, it adds to the community of Fort Benning in a positive manner.

"It's a free event, so families who live on post can have something to do on a Saturday night," said Reitz.

"You don't have to worry or stress about anything. You don't have to go off post or buy anything. It's just something fun to do."

"It's a good break from training. We get to eat fried food and have a good time with our buddies," said Pfc. Luke Sobralski, F Company, 2nd Battalion, 58th Infantry Regiment.

"We have time to take a break and relax. I feel loved by the community," said Spc. Jerry Shepherd, F Company, 2nd Battalion, 58th Infantry Regiment.

"I've never heard of Whisky Bent before, but they sound really good," said Pvt. Johnny Rivera, F Company, 2nd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment. "It's nice of Fort Benning to throw this event for us Soldiers."

"The event makes you feel more at home. It's a massive recovery time and it feels great," said Rivera.
