Time is valuable, and when it comes time to renew a Common Access Card, most people don't want to spend hours sitting at the Fort Leonard Wood ID Card Facility waiting room to take care of the routine task.
ID card facility staff members want community members to know long waits are not necessary.
"ID Card/CACs can be renewed 90 days prior to expiration," said Jessie French, director of Human Resources. "(Community members) can go online to schedule an appointment and not waste their time by walking in."
The ID card facility is often one of the first stops for people new to Fort Leonard Wood. The facility is the place to go when its time to enroll in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, get or renew a CAC and to pick up official ID cards for service members, Family members, retirees, veterans and civilian/contract employees working on the installation.
French said it is not uncommon for walk-in customers to have to wait up to three hours to receive service.
Pamela Tyler, lead human resource assistant, said scheduling an appointment is much more convenient and saves a lot of time.
"By utilizing the appointment system, customers will eliminate long periods of wait time as well as time away from their respective jobs," Tyler said. "The RAPIDS Appointment Scheduler website is user friendly and can be accessed from any computer (government and personal), mobile phone or any device that has internet connections."
The Fort Leonard Wood Network Enterprise Center has placed the RAPIDS Appointment Scheduler link in the "Helpful Links Folder" on desktops.
To make an appointment, go to the link or go to https://rapids-appointments.dmdc.osd.mil online, Customers can also call 573.596.0131, ext. 60744 for an appointment. After completing the appointment registration process, customers can be assured of ID Card Facility services without the long wait.
Tyler said if a certain date is "grayed" out and cannot be accessed on the system, it is because that day is either a holiday or no more appointments are available.
"You will only be able to access available appointments for the current month and following month," she added.
