NUREMBERG, Germany - A Helicopter from 12th Combat Aviation Brigade
conducted a precautionary landing at 1835 local time, Thursday, Aug. 17, in
a field near the village of Traunfeld.
The AH-64 Apache from 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, was returning
from gunnery training at the Grafenwoehr Training Area when the pilots
observed a maintenance warning light. They followed protocol and landed the
aircraft in the safest open area.
No one was injured during the incident.
The aircraft presence drew a small crowd of locals from Traunfeld who
graciously treated the pilots to coffee and pastries. The pilots repaid the
favor by providing the local children with tour of the AH-64.
A downed aircraft recovery team was immediately launched from Grafenwoehr to
inspect the aircraft. The team replaced a transmission sensor and the
aircraft departed for Ansbach Army Airfield and safely landed at around 2400
hours.
