FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. -- Sgt. Maj. Jose D. Salas assumed responsibility as Blanchfield Army Community Hospital's Troop Command sergeant major Friday, Aug. 12 on the hospital's A Building lawn.

Salas is the first sergeant major selected for the Troop Command position. The role was previously filled by Sgt. Maj. Earl Senter before a troop commander was in place. Once Sgt. Maj. Senter moved to San Antonio, Texas to take the realm of the Dental Directorate sergeant major, Master Sgt. John Thomas stepped in the position until Sgt. Maj. Salas arrived.

Salas has served in a variety of positions during his 26-year career including 44th Medical Brigade Operations Sergeant Major; HHC, 44th Medical Brigade First Sergeant; and the 28th Combat Support Hospital Operations NCO, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. During his career, Salas deployed twice to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

The ceremony at Blanchfield signified the passing of responsibility to the incoming sergeant major, who will serve as the enlisted advisor to the troop commander.
