Twelve competitors will vie for the title of Army Materiel Command Soldier and Non-commissioned officer of the year in a three-day contest at Camp Atterbury, July 7-9.

This year's competition will test physical and mental agility and resilience. The winners will compete at the 15th Annual Department of Army level competition Sep. 26 to Oct. 3 at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia.

Meet this year's competitors:

ARMY MATERIEL COMMAND HEADQUARTERS

Spc. David Dorfman is a trumpeter assigned to the 389th Army Band at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Dorfman a native of Madison, Connecticut, and has been in the Army for one and a half years. Dorfman's interests include musical performance, hiking, running and reading. His future goals are to attain the rank of sergeant, earn a master's and doctoral degree and be selected as a trumpet player for one of the three special bands in the U.S. Army.

Sgt. Mara E. Manning is a vocalist and euphonium and trombone player in the 389th Army Band at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. A native of Cleveland, Tennessee, Manning has been in the Army for more than four years. Her interests are camping, hiking, cooking, and yoga. Her short-term goals are to attend Air Assault School and make the commandant's list at the Army Leadership Course. Manning's long-term goals include earning a master's degree in Physical Therapy and retire as a Sergeant Major.

ARMY CONTRACTING COMMAND

Sgt. First Class Patrick J. Scheu is an Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology (AL&T) Contracting Noncommissioned Officer assigned to the 902nd Contracting Support Battalion at Joint Base Lewis-Mcchord, Washington. A native of Saint Louis, Scheu has been in the Army for 10 years. He is interested in fishing, hiking and sports and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. His short-term goals are to achieve his Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Level Two Certification and become a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. Scheu would like to achieve the rank of command sergeant major.

UNITED STATES ARMY SECURITY ASSISTANCE COMMAND

Sgt. First Class Alexander Garcia is an infantryman assigned to U.S. Army Security Assistance Training Management Organization at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. A native of Fresno, California, Garcia has been in the Army for 13 years. He is interested in physical fitness and wants to become a battalion command sergeant major.

AVIATION & MISSILE COMMAND

Staff Sgt. Adam Johnson is a CH-47 helicopter repairer working as a quality assurance specialist assigned to Aviation Center Logistics Command at Fort Rucker, Alabama. A native of Nederland, Texas, Johnson has been in the Army for 15 years. His personal interests are in fishing and aviation. He is currently finishing a master's degree in Aeronautical Science.

Staff Sgt. Michael Murphy is an aircraft powertrain repairer assigned to the Aviation Center Logistics Command at Fort Rucker, Alabama. A native of Bisbee, Arizona, Murphy has served in the Army for seven years. His interests are mechanics, wood working and household improvements. Murphy would like to earn an Aircraft and Power Plant Certification, be inducted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and become a warrant officer. He is working towards a master's degree and would like to retire from the United States Army.

U.S. ARMY COMMUNICATIONS-ELECTRONICS COMMAND

Sgt. Juan L. Howard is a chaplain assistant assigned to U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. A native of Baltimore City, Maryland, Howard has been in the Army for six years. His personal interests are in sports, and athletic training. He wants to become Airborne and Air Assault qualified and promoted to staff sergeant. Howard is also planning to pursue a college degree in social work.

SURFACE DEPLOYMENT AND DISTRIBUTION COMMAND

Spc. Mitchell Keeton II is a motor transport operator assigned to 688th Rapid Port Opening Element in Fort Eustis, Virginia. A native of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Keeton has been in the Army for one and a half years. His interest are weightlifting, football, riding his motorcycle, and listening to music. Keeton's goals are to attend Pathfinder, Airborne, Ranger, and Antiterrorism Evasion Driving Course for Staff Drivers. His long-term goal is to earn a doctoral degree in Forensic Psychology.

Sgt. Maksym Moskalenko is a transportation management coordinator assigned to the 598th Transportation Brigade in Sembach, Germany. A Bronx, New York native, Moskalenko has been in the Army for six years. His interests include traveling, photography, hiking, swimming and intends to become a chief warrant officer before retiring from the Army.

U.S. ARMY RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND ENGINEERING COMMAND

Staff Sgt. Robert D. Keifer is an infantryman and platoon sergeant assigned to U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (Natick Labs). Keifer, a native of Agana, Guam, has been in the Army for eight and a half years. His interests are history, basketball and the outdoors. His goals include graduating the Senior Leaders Course at the top of his class and to become a command sergeant major.

ARMY SUSTAINMENT COMMAND

Sgt. Henrique P. Magalhaes is a chaplain's assistant assigned to the Army Sustainment Command in Rock Island, Illinois. A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Magalhaes has been in the Army for over six years. His interests are ministry, reading, drawing, digital art, and sports. His goals include promotion to staff sergeant and attain a position in brigade religious affairs, he would also like to finish his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Divinity to become a Chaplain.

TANK-AUTOMOTIVE AND ARMAMENTS COMMAND

Sgt. David F. Pearson is a track vehicle repairer assigned to Detroit Arsenal. A native of Canton, Massachusetts, Pearson has been in the Army for six years and has a bachelor's degree in communication. His interests include softball, hockey, reading, and working on cars. Pearson's goals are to be promoted to provide for his family that supports him during his military career.
