ADELPHI, Md. (May 23, 2016) -- Administrative professionals are an intricate part of the U.S. Army Research Laboratory and play a critical role in its daily execution. As part of ARL's People First Initiative, Adriana Rugel-Evans of the Sensors and Electron Devices Directorate, is recognized as one of many outstanding administrative professionals within ARL.
Rugel-Evans began her career at ARL in 2010 and was ultimately promoted to executive assistant responsible for providing direct support to the SEDD Director.
In this capacity, Rugel-Evans plays an essential role in managing information flow, planning and organizing executive meetings and closely managing the travel schedule of the Director to improve overall efficiency and enable him to focus on broader organizational issues and concerns.
She is also responsible for helping to manage the day-to-day operations of SEDD by providing front office support. This includes facilitating and coordinating procedural issues surrounding projects and serving as an action officer for the many administrative efforts associated with the directorate.
When asked what she likes most about working at ARL, Rugel-Evans highlighted the work performed in SEDD in support of the Soldier.
"Although I do not conduct research, my support role is important to the effective operation of SEDD and its campaigns to enable the warfighter with the best resources for success. I enjoy being a part of this mission," Rugel-Evans said.
Rugel-Evans attributes the success she has achieved in her position to her attention to detail, organizational and time management skills, and her desire to continuously strive to improve her skill sets.
"My ability to multitask on a daily basis has been beneficial for me. I always want to learn more and will assist anyone that comes to me with questions by seeking answers even if I don't know them," Rugel-Evans said.
Rugel-Evans continued by stating, "I have always been able to take a look at the big picture and prioritize as needed. Frequently, I am called upon to make travel arrangements and will work together with other executives and their assistants to schedule meetings. Managing my time as well as my boss' time often goes beyond a regular eight hour shift."
SEDD Acting Director Karl Kappra has worked closely with Rugel-Evans over the past three years. He commented on the value she adds to the organization by having a willingness to stretch beyond her comfort zone to assume new responsibilities.
"Adriana and our entire administrative staff are absolutely critical to the efficient and effective operations of the Directorate," she said. "They consistently demonstrate exceptional organizational skills in the handling of a myriad of often conflicting activities while maintaining a pleasant attitude. We truly appreciate all that they do."
Rugel-Evans believes that the recognition of administration professionals is important for the organization and the employee.
"Administrative professionals do the behind the scenes work to ensure those they support can be successful," she said.
Outside of the laboratory, Rugel-Evans enjoys spending time with friends, quiet times with family and traveling abroad to learn about different cultures around the world.
