Baumholder, Germany -- 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command hosted their annual Best Warrior Competition May 18. Enlisted Soldiers, Noncommissioned Officers and Junior Officers from the 10th AAMDC were tested on their physical, mental and warrior capabilities during the grueling four day competition in order to be selected as the best warrior within their tier.

After months of planning 15 representatives were chosen from all of 10th AAMDC's subordinate commands to battle each other for the right to claim that they were 10th AAMDC's Best Warrior. After an incredibly demanding four days of competition only 10 exhausted combatants remained standing.

"The goal of these events was to tax the competitors physically and mentally," stated Master Sergeant Jamie Lopez, a lead coordinator for the 10th AAMDC's Best Warrior Competition, "we really wanted to push these Soldiers to their limits."

The competitors participated in and 17 different events focusing on various warrior skills and tasks. Throughout the events they were graded on their proficiency at each task and awarded points based off of a predetermined grading systems. Some of these events included an Army Physical Fitness Test, a 2.5 mile obstacle course, three squad level tactical lanes, an Army combatives tournament, a 20 kilometer ruck march, day and night land navigation, and qualification on the M9 pistol, M4 Carbine, M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, and M240B machine gun.

While every participant in this competition is to be commended, at the end of it all only one Soldier from each tier could be named 10th AAMDC's Best Warrior. Spc. Andrew D. Mackenzie, a 14E Patriot Fire Control Enhanced Operator/Maintainer, Sgt. Deandre Jackson, a 91D Power Generation Equipment Repairer, and 2nd Lt. Brandt Ange, a 14A Air Defense Artillery Officer, will be representing their command at the United States Army Europe Best Warrior Competition in August of this year.

"I feel privileged to have won the right to represent the 10th AAMDC in the upcoming competition," said 2nd Lt. Brandt Ange, "but I feel even more honored to be serving in the same unit as the other competitors. Everyone who competed gave it their all, and they all have a lot to be proud of."

"The rest of USAEUR better be ready, because 10th AAMDC is sending some fierce competition this year."
