Closing Skills Gap Key to Building, Maintaining Readiness

The first panel discussion held during the FORSCOM - TRADOC Senior Leader Summit focused on Maximizing Readiness.

Panel members represented training organizations and line units, they were Gen. Mark J. O'Neil, deputy commanding general, Fort Leavenworth and Combined Arms Center -- Training; Gen. Derrell K. Williams, commanding general, Combined Arms Support Command at Fort Lee, VA; Maj. Gen. Courtney P. Carr, Indiana National Guard; Maj. Gen. Rick Waddell, 76th Operational Response Command, Army Reserve; Maj. Gen. James E. Rainey, commanding general, 3rd Inf. Div.; Command Sgt. Maj. Walter A. Tagalicud, CSM 3rd ID; and Mr. Tom Greco from TRADOC headquarters.

The panel was asked to respond to three critical issues; objective training implementation and how it would be executed across the total force; conducting multi-unit and multi echelon level training; and implementation of good training and training management and developing the necessary training skills in leaders.

During the session, the members shared the training improvements and tools offered by their organizations and how the training tools help achieve individual unit and total force training goals.

The panel members also responded to questions and suggestions from summit attendees and discussed best training practices.
