VICENZA, Italy -- Chief Warrant Officer 4 Harvey Gould, deputy, Logistics Support Team-Africa, was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 5, the highest warrant officer rank in the Army at a ceremony here, March 1.
Gould was one of only nine selected this year within the Army's Ordnance Corps.
Col. Todd Bertulis, commander, 405th Army Field Support Brigade, presided over the ceremony.
"Promoting Chief Gould today provides us a great opportunity to recognize some of the fundamentals of our profession: selfless service, leadership, respect for others, and doing our duty," he said.
Gould's brother, Greg Gould, a 22-year veteran of the Nebraska National Guard, traveled from Omaha, Nebraska, to witness the ceremony. Gould's first company commander, retired Lt. Col. John Boyd, traveled from Belgium to attend the ceremony, too.
Gould joined the Army in 1983 reaching the enlisted rank of staff sergeant (promotable) and in 2001 became a warrant officer. He has been serving in Vicenza for nearly four years providing logistical support to the 173rd Airborne Brigade, U.S. Army Africa, and several other units in the area.
"This promotion really recognizes all the great people who I have had the honor to work with throughout the years," Gould said. "They are the ones this promotion recognizes because without them I would not be where I am today."
