FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Several general officer changes will take place in the coming weeks for Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division (LI).

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that Brig. Gen. Diana Holland, 10th Mountain Division deputy commanding general - support, will be the next commandant of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

A USMA Class of 1990 graduate, she served as a faculty member in the history department at West Point from 1999 until 2002.

While assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division in 2004, Holland served as division plans officer and then operations officer in the 92nd Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy) while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. She deployed to eastern Afghanistan as commander of the 92nd Engineer Battalion in 2010. In 2012, she assumed command of the 130th Engineer Brigade at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and deployed with brigade headquarters to Afghanistan.

Before arriving at Fort Drum, Holland served as executive officer to the director of the Army staff at the Pentagon.

Acting Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning praised the selection of Holland to be the 76th commandant of cadets, making her the first woman in West Point history to serve in the role.

"Diana's operational and command experiences will bring a new and diverse perspective to West Point's leadership team," Fanning said. "She is absolutely the right person for this critical position."

Brig. Gen. Andrew Rohling, Fort Drum and 10th Mountain Division acting senior commander, will assume the duties of 10th Mountain Division deputy commanding general - support and will deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

Rohling received his commission as an infantry second lieutenant from the University of South Florida in 1989 and served as a platoon leader in the 7th Infantry Division at Fort Ord, Calif., during Operation Just Cause in Panama. Among his company and battalion command assignments, he led 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (AA) at Fort Campbell, Ky., and also served as infantry branch chief at U.S. Army Human Resource Command in Washington, D.C.

He deployed multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and served as executive officer to former Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond Odierno before arriving at Fort Drum.

The DOD also announced Brig. Gen. Paul Bontrager will be the next Fort Drum and 10th Mountain Division acting senior commander, effective today.

Bontrager enlisted in 1982 and served in the 101st Airborne Division (AA) at Fort Campbell, Ky. He earned his commission as an aviation officer in 1988. Among his key command assignments, he served in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, Ky., and Train Advise Assist Command -- South at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. A master Army aviator, Bontrager is rated in several military and civilian aircraft.

He has deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm, Operation Joint Forge, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn and Operation Resolute Support.
