FORT BENNING, Ga., (Nov.11 2015) -- The 75th Ranger Regiment and 198th Infantry Brigade spouses came together for a friendly kickball game Nov. 4 at Gowdy Field.

The idea for the game came about when Gretchen Timmons, whose husband is the 198th brigade commander, heard that Ranger wives had been playing kickball games against each other.

"I thought it would be fun to come out here and play against their team," Timmons said. "We don't cross paths too much with the Ranger regiment, so this is a great opportunity to see a different side of post that we usually don't get to see."

Deb Lubas, whose husband is the battalion commander for RSTB with the 75th Ranger Regiment, said Ranger spouses started playing against each other so they could meet each other and participate in a game that wouldn't be too competitive. She said playing against 198th spouses was great for building camaraderie.

"So many of us are doing the same types of thing, just trying to build camaraderie with our spouses and Families and I think this helps build relationships among different units across post," she said. "Most of us haven't played since we were in sixth grade, so it's just something that's silly and fun."

Tameka Edwards and Kalona Barker, Family readiness support assistants for the Ranger units, came to the game with festive signs to cheer on the Ranger wives.

"Sometimes we play, but we just came out to be their cheerleaders tonight," Edwards said.

Barker said events like these are good for the morale of Soldier and Ranger wives.

"The girls always come out to watch their husbands. They're always supporting their husbands and to have the roles reversed and have your husband and kids cheering you on is awesome," she said.

Ranger spouses defeated the 198th spouses 7-1.
