Dr. Kenneth L. Cameron, PhD, MPH, ATC, Keller Army Community Hospital's Director of Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Research, was named a 2015 National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Fellow, in June, at NATA's National Convention in St. Louis, Mo.
Dr. Cameron was one of two candidates selected to be recognized as NATA Fellows in 2015.
The NATA Fellows program, which began in 2008, recognizes professional achievement in research and/or education, combined with service to the profession. Only the most accomplished scholars in the athletic training profession earn this distinction and are allowed to use the prestigious designation of "FNATA." Candidates that are selected to be NATA Fellows produce the highest quality research in their professional publications, make significant educational contributions to undergraduate or graduate professional preparation, and provide a range of professional service that significantly impacts the athletic training profession and sports medicine community.
Dr. Cameron's primary research interests are in the areas of injury prevention, musculoskeletal injury and disease epidemiology, and outcomes associated with the treatment of these injuries, specifically in physically active and military populations. He also has specific research interests in knee and ankle injuries, shoulder instability, and biomarkers associated with post-traumatic osteoarthritis.
He has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer reviewed publications, several book chapters, and has presented his work at professional conferences nationally and internationally.
Dr. Cameron has excelled in securing external funding support for important research initiatives related to improving the health and welfare of cadets and soldiers. Dr. Cameron's work has resulted in several research awards from the NATA, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
Dr. Cameron served as a certified athletic trainer and instructor in the Department of Physical Education at USMA from 1996-2004, and has been a faculty member of KACH's John A. Feagin Jr. Sports Medicine Fellowship since 2006.
