COLLEVILLE-SUR-MER, France -- The Army's top general in Europe met with a congressional delegation at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial here Aug. 30 to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, commanding general, U.S. Army Europe, joined Representative Charles Dent (R-PA-15), Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA-13), and Representative Linda Sánchez (D-CA-38) to ensure those at rest are given the honor they deserve.
The Normandy Cemetery is part of the American Battle Monument Commission, which administers, operates and maintains 25 permanent American military cemeteries and 27 federal memorial, monuments and markers across the world.
The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France is located on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army June 8, 1944, and the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II.
Normandy is ABMC's most visited cemetery, seeing approximately one million visitors each year.
