SAN ANTONIO (July 1, 2015) -- Thirty-five Transition Services Specialists and human resources professionals attended the TSS Signature Course at the Installation Management Academy on Fort Sam Houston 22-26 June.
The training augmented their ability to deliver Soldier for Life - Transition Assistance Program services and focused on SFL-TAP center operations, the SFL-TAP automation system, marketing, partnerships and the Soldier Life Cycle.
"The course provided a great opportunity to learn more about the art of delivering SFL-TAP services," said student Michael Fugate, director of human resources for U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria. "This course was a great venue for capturing best business practices from other installations for delivery of this important program at my own garrison."
SFL-TAP offers counseling, employment and education workshops and seminars required by the Veterans Opportunity to Work Act, career readiness standards and DoD transition guidelines and directives. It provides Soldiers the resources to make career decisions, be competitive in the workforce and be positive contributors to their communities as they transition to civilian life.
The program also provides a spectrum of programs, services and networks to Department of the Army civilians, retirees and Family members who are making career and transition decisions.
"Considering the importance of this program and what our TSS's do, the networking and relationships developed among the students added to the value of the information they were given," said Tamara Elston, military human resources specialist for the U.S. Army Installation Management Command Central Region.
"With what we are doing in delivering transition assistance program services, this training is an essential tool that enables us to build the bench of transition services specialists, share information and operate as an enterprise for delivering high quality services to our Soldiers."
The guest speakers for the course included leaders affiliated with SFL-TAP, including Walter Herd from the U.S. Army Human Resources Command and Master Sgt. Bryan Mulligan and Master Sgt. George Palmer from the Headquarters, Department of the Army Soldier for Life program.
Additionally, they interacted with a panel of communications experts including IMCOM Public Affairs Officer Scott Malcom, Pierre Laxa of IMCOM G9 marketing and Todd White of Joint Base San Antonio Public Affairs.
