FORT BENNING, Ga., (July 22, 2015) -- Lisa B. Coleman was named the Georgia/Alabama District Assistant Superintendent for Fort Benning, Fort Rucker and Maxwell Air Force Base schools in April.

Coleman comes to the Department of Defense Education Activity Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools from the Phenix City school systems where she served as the district director of curriculum, instruction and federal programs from 2009-2015.

Coleman has been an educator for 29 years, beginning her career in 1986 as a high school biology teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from South Carolina State University, a Master of Arts in Guidance and Counseling and a master's add-on in Educational Leadership and School Administration from Troy University and is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at Auburn University in the school of Educational Foundation, Leadership and Technology.

As the daughter of a U.S. Navy veteran, the wife of an Army veteran and mother of two, Coleman said she looks forward to working for the Department of Defense Education Activity because it gives her a chance to give back to the military community that supported her Family for years.

"I have always believed in serving parents by serving their children," Coleman said. "And military children are very special. So, my personal goal is to provide them the very best opportunities that we can offer."

Coleman said she is looking forward to the upcoming school year, and plans on continuing the good work being done in Georgia/Alabama District DoDEA schools.

"I bring to the table a wealth of experience in a variety of educational settings," Coleman said. "And I look forward to working with Dr. Christy Huddleston (the Superintendent of the Georgia/Alabama district). She is an awesome leader for this school district, and we make a great team."

A native of South Carolina, Coleman has been married to retired Army Lt. Col. Ernest C. Coleman for 27 years, and they have two daughters - Brooke Elizabeth (16) and Lauren Alexandria (13).
