TAPA ARMY BASE, Estonia - Despite the scattered showers, Maj. Gen. Duane A. Gamble, of Arbutus, Maryland, commander of 21st Theater Sustainment Command visited Tapa Army Base and the Central Training Area in Estonia July 9, to meet with Soldiers currently serving there as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
"It really is invigorating, I mean it's really wonderful to see our Soldiers and our NATO partners working together in a time of pretty strategic importance," said Gamble.
Operation Atlantic Resolve is an ongoing series of training exercises designed to build relationships, trust and interoperability between the U.S. and its NATO allies.
During Gamble's visit, he took a tour of the base and the sustainment resources available. He then toured the Central Training Area, where U.S. Army Engineers with 902nd Engineer Company, 15th Engineer Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade have worked hard to upgrade some of its facilities.
In only about a month and a half, the engineers built four training huts, and have begun work on a new tank road in the training area.
"With the new "b" huts, NATO allies that come train [in Estonia], now have upgraded facilities to come together, talk about their training, figure out what they did right or wrong and then go back out and train again," said Capt. Shawn Cook, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, commander of 902nd Eng. Company.
As Gamble made his way to meet his Soldiers, he spoke of the gratitude and pride he felt for their hard work and dedication.
"It really is a tremendous opportunity for our units to come train with their Estonian allies and for that I am very, very grateful and proud what our Soldiers are doing out here, how they represent our country and handle themselves in a foreign country, their discipline as a unit and their self-discipline," said Gamble. "It really makes me proud to be their commander."
