WIESBADEN, Germany -- Members from two local civic and business organizations visited Clay Kaserne, here, June 11, for a tour of the installation and Army Europe information briefings.

German Brig. Gen. Markus Laubenthal, chief of staff, U.S. Army Europe, along with other Army Europe senior staff members hosted nearly 60 members of the American German Business Club and the Steuben Schurz Gesellschaft for information briefings, on-site visits of the Gen. John Shalikashvili Mission Command Center, and a tour of the installation's airfield and other on-post facilities.

The American German Business Club and its activities are designed to strengthen the ties between representatives of American and German businesses through personal networking in an informal atmosphere.

The Steuben-Schurz-Society can chase its roots back to 1930 in Berlin, but now concentrates its activities in Frankfurt am Main, and is focused on the relationship between Germany and the United States in all its aspects.

During the "Strong Europe" briefing delivered by Col. Bill Williams, deputy chief of staff, Army Europe, the importance of working closely with our host nation civic partners was highlighted.

"You, as leaders in your communities, are key in helping us share the story about what U.S. Army Europe is doing to keep Europe strong," Laubenthal said during the tour of the command center. "You are welcome here, and we are glad to share this day with you."

After the tour, Laubenthal, other senior leaders and staff members who assisted with the Clay Kaserne tour joined the civic groups for an informal dinner and social.
