FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (June 3, 2015) -- Soldiers in San Antonio kicked off celebrations for the Army's 240th Birthday with a mass formation run on June 3.

More than 5,000 Soldiers ran a 3.5 mile circuit on Fort Sam Houston that started at 5:30 a.m.

The run is the first of several events area Army units are planning to celebrate the Army's 240th birthday, including a formal ball on June 13 and numerous cake-cutting ceremonies across Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis. The United States Army was officially established by the First Continental Congress on June 14, 1775.
