ANSBACH, Germany (May 4, 2015) -- A delegation of five doctors from the Ansbach Klinikum and their U.S. Army counterparts conducted a walk through the future Health and Dental Clinic currently being built at Urlas April 24.

Frank Varano, program management engineer for the Defense Health Agency-Europe explained the state-of-the-art features and layout of the site.

He pointed out that the new clinic is being built in accordance with the latest German building and ecological standards, including a full green roof.

Varano said that the new clinic will replace the existing Health and Dental Clinic at Katterbach, which was built more than 70 years ago. The new clinic will also consolidate other health services that are currently housed at other locations around U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach.

The new Health and Dental Clinic is scheduled to open its doors to outpatients in the summer of 2016. Lt. Col. Rodney S. Gonzalez, commander of the Katterbach Army Health Clinic, who hosted his Host Nation doctor colleagues, emphasized that outpatients requiring extensive medical care or surgery will continue to be referred to Host Nation health experts and local hospitals.

At the end of their visit, the delegation left with a better understanding of what the new clinic will look like and what services are to be provided for members of the U.S. military.
