FORT SILL, Okla. (April 2, 2015) -- The deadline to file taxes with the IRS or request an extension is running out as all tax returns must be filed by the April 15 deadline if you do not have an extension or other special circumstance.

If you owe the IRS money and fail to file your taxes on time, you may be subject to paying the tax along with interest and penalty fees. If you file an extension and pay your tax obligations to the IRS after April 15, you will generally still owe interest along with the taxes.

The Fort Sill Income Tax Assistance Center staff is here to help you file taxes for free so this does not happen.

If you need to file an extension with the IRS because you cannot meet the filing deadline, the tax center staff also offers this service at no charge.

The tax center staff accepts walk-ins during all office hours. This year, any type of tax return within the center's scope of services can be prepared as a walk-in service.

The tax center is open until the last day of the tax season. There will not be tax preparers available to assist you after tax season ends. Remember to bring your military ID card and the Social Security card of any family members you are claiming on your return, along with any other appropriate documentation.

The tax center is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. free tax preparation is offered to all eligible service members, retirees and their family members.
