ESCHENBACH, Germany -- Each month families at Netzaberg Elementary School eat breakfast at the school and discuss ways to improve their children's education with school leaders.
At each Dragon's Den Breakfast, NES administrators invite parents to the school once a month to discuss different topics that could benefit their children, like improving reading comprehension, math strategies and information technology.
Booster club helps sponsor the event by providing breakfast treats. School specialists often serve as key presenters.
"My goal is to help parents have a comprehension conversation modeled after what is being done at school," said Julia Pippin, a reading specialist at NES.
During a math discussion, presenters Kim Martin and Jerry Edwards detailed different math strategies used at school and demonstrated a variety of games that parents can play with their children to help improve math. They also played a short video reiterating the importance of strong math skills as an adult professional.
The school hopes to continue to have more parents participate in the educational discussion.
"I will be asking parents to provide me feedback on topics they would like to see addressed in the future, and allow their needs to guide our professional development opportunities," said NES principal Vanessa Faerber.
Faerber added that she hopes more parents continue to participate in the educational discussion.
