FORT SILL, Okla. -- B Battery, 3rd Battalion, 13th Field Artillery, recently earned the gold physical training streamer for outstanding physical excellence in the 75th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB).

Col. Michael Eastman and Command Sgt. Maj. Brian Harrison, 75th FAB commander and CSM respectively, presented the streamer to the battery for achieving a 270-plus battery average on the Army Physical Fitness Test. This score was the highest among units in the brigade.

"From the very start, our Soldiers said they were willing to train harder and sweat more to earn that streamer," said 1st Sgt. Chad Kaltved. Unit leaders created a Bulldog Challenge competition designed to see who could improve their fitness the most.

"The unit's accomplishment makes me proud," said Kaltved.

During a 60-day period, Soldiers stuck to a hardened training regimen consisting of sprints and distance runs along with core strengthening exercises. They were also encouraged to get good, regular sleep and make healthy food choices to decrease their body fat percentages.

"Despite getting smoked everyday, Soldiers quickly bought into the Bulldog Challenge after feeling the tangible benefits to their speed and strength," said 1st Lt. Glenn Roser, battery executive officer. "Most saw significant improvements to their APFT scores, some by over 40 points."

Over 60 Soldiers trained and completed the challenge between September and October.
