The U.S. Army will highlight the care and range of support available to the service's wounded injured and ill Soldiers and their Families throughout the month of November and recognize the dedicated health care professionals who are part of Army medicine. November has been designated Warrior Care Month" by Secretary of Defense Robert F. Gates. The Army is committed to meeting the care and healing needs of Wounded Warriors and their Families. From the medic on the battlefield through the medical treatment facilities, to the Warrior Transition Units, to the Soldier and Family Assistance Center now open across the United States and Europe, the Army is offering programs and support for America's recent veterans.
"From the battlefield to the home front, we are committed to providing the world's best care for our wounded, ill and injured Soldiers. And not just take care of our Soldiers, but support the family throughout the healing and recovery process." said Pete Geren, Secretary of the Army.
Examples of the Army's enhanced Wounded Warrior care efforts include the implementation of the "Triad of Care" concept, where a dedicated Physician Care Manager, Nurse Care Manager and Squad Leader is assigned to each of our Warrior Transition Unit Soldiers and their Families.
"Our duty is to ensure that the quality of care and support is commensurate with the service and sacrifice of our Soldiers and their Families. Our medical care and support staff, military and civilian, are dedicated professionals who will accept nothing less than the best for those in their care," Geren added.
Although the Army is making progress, more remains to be done. "People are the heart of our Army," said Gen. George W. Casey, Jr., Chief of Staff, U.S. Army. "We've made great progress but we won't rest until all our Soldiers and their Families are getting the care they need and the benefits and support they've earned - each and every time."
During November, the Army's Warrior Care and Transition Office will take the lead in communicating across the service about the expansion of programs dedicated to the care and well-being of Soldiers and Families. Information sharing events are scheduled throughout the month and at Warrior Transition Units and installations around the Army.
