Students from Humphreys Central Elementary School and Humphreys Middle/High School came by foot, car, bus, bicycle and skateboard to begin the second year in the new schools. Joyce Diggs, HCES principal and Shelly Kennedy, HM/HS principal, welcomed about 978 total students to the schools. A slight drizzle put a small damper on the welcome back festivities, but once the children were inside the buildings, they knew they were starting on a new adventure. At the high school, following the raising of the flags, students went to the auditorium, where Kennedy and other school staff welcomed the students and got them started on their new school year. At HCES, students were welcomed by teachers, staff and members of Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers volunteers as they entered the building. Following some housekeeping and rules announcements, and some welcoming comments from Command Sgt. Maj. Matthew D. McCoy, Humphreys Garrison command sergeant major, Diggs rang the bell to begin the school year.
