Fort Belvoir, Va. (Aug 29, 2014) - Fort Belvoir military spouse, Stephanie Rowell, was one of many to secure a spot at the popular Hearts Apart Meet and Greet, Aug. 20, at the Exchange.

The Relocation Assistance Program's meet and greet, hosted by RELO marketing volunteer Malynda Echols and April Burns, Relocation Assistance Program coordinator, allowed 20 people the chance to receive free haircuts, makeovers, food and beverages.

"I just want to let people know that we are here … there are people who care and there are services that care," Echols said. "(Army Community Service) RELO is here whether you've just got here or you've been here. If you need an outlet, we're here. Bring your kids, we're kid-friendly and bring your spouse, if they are still here, too."

Rowell said she was most interested in receiving the free haircut.

"It's great," she said. "It's something else we can do because otherwise we're just sitting around."

Rowell and her two young children enjoyed cupcakes and beverages from Starbucks while being pampered.

"My husband's in Korea right now, so it's an extra boost while he's gone," she said. "This, specifically, the whole hair and makeup thing -- that'll make me feel good."

Getting a makeover and receiving makeup tips will make her feel special for when her husband returns, she said.

"And they're great with the kids," Rowell said. "They always have special things and (my kids) are always excited."

Thirteen-year-old Claudia Klinck said she was excited to be able to do the event with her mother and plans to participate in future events.

"I think it's a really nice way to let Families like mine know that they are welcome here," she said. "It's a fun event for us to do. I've never done anything like this."

Echols said it's a way for military spouses to meet each other, but all events are open to active-duty military, Department of Defense civilians and Family members as well.

RELO offers many different services including relocation counseling, newcomers' orientation, Spouse Support Program and overseas orientations.

The next Hearts Apart event will be a recipe swap, Sept. 16. For more details and to stay up-to-date on future events, visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FtBelvoirRelocationAssistanceProgram.
