FORT BENNING, Ga. (Aug. 20, 2014) -- Officials from the Army Family Action Plan said the program has completed several issues submitted by members of the Fort Benning community during the local AFAP conference last fall.

The conference, held Oct. 28 at the Army Community Service Center, provided the opportunity for Soldiers, Families, retirees, survivors and Army civilians to share their concerns with Fort Benning leadership. Issues that can't be dealt with at the post level are passed to higher headquarters for resolution.

"We wanted the community to be aware that we were actually working on the issues and completed issues that we found resolutions for," said Starla De Saussure, AFAP program manager.

De Saussure said completed prioritized issues from fiscal year 2014 included lowering Columbus Bank & Trust ATM fees in the Sand Hill training area that were above the industry average for financial institutions on military installations.

Soldiers who were not members of CB&T paid higher ATM fees because only CB&T ATM's are available on Sand Hill, De Saussure said.

Following the AFAP conference, Garrison Commander Col. Michail Huerter met with John Mitchell of CB&T regarding discounting ATM fees at its 10 ATMs on Sand Hill, De Saussure said. Fees were reduced from $3 to $2.50, which now meet the industry average in comparison to Wells Fargo, Kinetic Credit Union and other banks in the local area.

Other completed local issues included Soldiers serving as sponsors for overseas programs, the repair of numerous potholes on Custer Road on Sand Hill and establishing adult-focused events and resources for adults who are part of the Exceptional Family Member Program.
