Sergeant Amanda Tucker, a Public Affairs Specialist with the 82nd Sustainment Brigade at Fort Bragg, N.C., and her family, continue on their health journey by putting the Performance Triad principles into practice.
Since her last weigh-in, Tucker happily reports that she has lost several pounds and that one of her friends has lost a significant amount of weight in a short amount of time as a result of walking more. Tucker states that she has participated in a half-marathon and in the Joint Base Balad Olympics at Fort Bragg where she was deemed the "Middle-Weight Champion" in 2009. She is currently enrolled in a self-defense class.
Concerning the Sleep element, Tucker and her family have not had any challenges lately with sleep as they had in the past and everyone is able to get the recommended 7-8 hours of quality sleep with ease; it has become a good habit. The family notices a difference when they do not get the recommended number of hours of sleep.
Regarding the Activity element of the Triad, Tucker's children are very physically active and they participate in a disciplined, martial arts program, she explains. Her youngest child will also participate, once he is potty-trained. Her eldest child received his "white high belt in Tae Kwon Do this past January, participated within the 5K run this past November (as part of the Healthy Base Initiative at Fort Bragg) and can do a 'full lotus' yoga stance," exclaims Tucker. Tucker and her fiancé enjoy many outdoor activities with the children, cheering each other on in the process.
As for the Nutrition element, Tucker says that she opts to drink a full cup of water before eating whenever she is feeling stressed, emotional or hungry in an attempt to prevent overeating. She also avoids choosing highly processed, low-calorie, individually packaged foods because she believes that while the calorie content may be low, sometimes, so is the nutritional quality. Tucker says that she does not smoke and only drinks alcohol on occasion at social events and chooses water as her main beverage of choice.
Overall, Tucker and her family are finding the Performance Triad approach very beneficial to their individual health goals, and as a family, they continue making healthy strides to reach their maximum health to be able to enjoy life every day to the fullest.
