In support of national 'Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day', the Redstone Test Center welcomed more than 100 students ages 6 to 18 April 25 for a tour of RTC's facilities and learn about how the RTC mission supports the Soldier.
Col. Pat Mason, RTC Commander, started the day with a welcome and a sneak peak of RTC's new command video that describes RTC's impact on the Army mission. This sparked Mason to emphasize how hard every parent works to support the Soldier.
To end the welcome, a video highlighting motors and javelins blowing up as a part of the depicted test mission left the children in amazement to which Mason replied with laughter, "After that, your parents come to work and play."
Following the welcome, divisions across RTC gave tours of their work areas and provided children and up-close view of what it's like to support the U.S. Army.
The RTC Aviation Flight Test Directorate had static displays which included a UH-1 and a T-34 aircraft accessible for children to sit in, 'act' as a pilot and above all, make lasting memories with
their parents.
"This was just a great opportunity for my son to see the places and types of work I talk about at home," said Robert Fratangelo, computer engineer for RTC's Propulsion Test Division. Although the event was geared towards children, he described the event as being pleasurable for both children and parents.
RTC, a subordinate command of the Army Test and Evaluation Command, provides technical expertise, state-of-the-art facilities, and capabilities to plan, conduct, analyze, and report the results of test on missile and aviation systems, sensors, subsystems and components.
