(WASHINGTON)-- Hamburgers, hot dogs, and beans were served during a fundraiser hosted by the U.S. States Army Air Operations Group (AAOG) at their headquarters building at Fort Lesley J. McNair, Feb. 20, 2014.
The funds from the cookout go to support the inaugural AAOG Spring Formal in April.
"This is one of the many fundraisers we are having," said Sgt. Terri L. Casey-McGrath, AAOG operations non-commissioned officer. "We also have a cookbook; you can come by anytime to pick one up. The fundraisers help to offset the cost for our Soldiers to attend the ball."
In addition to hosting the cookout, AAOG took orders and delivered food to the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region/U.S. Army Military District of Washington staff located at Fort McNair.
"I thought it was a great idea," said Tom Cowan, JFHQ-NCR/MDW Joint Public Affairs Plans and Exercises, chief. "I liked the healthy lunch options that the AAOG offered."
"We've had about 32 orders," said Casey-McGrath. "We began cooking at 8 a.m."
AAOG offered two different meals, the Executive and the Responder. The Executive included a tuna salad sandwich while the Responder included a hamburger and hot dog. The names of the meals were derived from the unit. "Responders" is the motto of the AAOG and the Executive name came from the part of the mission that supports the Pentagon and the top Army Leadership.
"We did well, we hit the mark we were looking for," said Sgt. 1st Class Jose M. Soto-Echevarria, AAOG operations non-commissioned officer in charge. "We appreciate the support from the JFHQ-NCR/MDW community in helping to make this event a success."
